Even though we are frequently reminded that we are in a third world country, the Church has taken great steps to harness technology to shrink the vastness of the world. For several weeks preparation has been underway to be ready for a special meeting that occurred this past week via teleconference. While we have a very capable IT department here in Ghana, I have been able to fill a gap between technologists and the Area authorities. This last week we were very busy with final preparations for this video conference. Stephaney took a few pictures of me making final touches to the set up for the video conference. This is the room where the Area Presidency meets weekly, and many other such meetings occur.
The large screen showed the audience at the destination and the small monitor in front served as a teleprompter for those speaking in Ghana. The laptop I am leaning over is the script that I scrolled through as the speaker was talking.
The video camera on this end was preset to focus in on the speakers here as they presented their material. It’s fun being able to keep a toe in the IT arena and bridge this gap for some very special men, the Africa West Area Presidency.
With today being Fathers’ Day we wanted to wish all the Fathers who will read this blog and the husbands of the Mothers who may read it, a very Happy Fathers’ Day. Yes, Fathers’ Day is recognized in Ghana. As in the US, the primary children sang several songs to the Fathers in our Sacrament meeting today. Children the whole world round are very sweet.
Although our fathers have passed on, Stephaney and I fondly remember our fathers with affection. And I appreciate all the well wishes of our own wonderful children as we phoned or skyped in the last couple of days.

Happy Fathers Day, Dad! You've always been a great example to us kids. Good to see you keeping your tech skills up, even in Ghana. Hope you had a great day!
