Several weeks ago we took a video clip of the relationship of the office we work in, the apartment complex we live in and the Ghana Temple. For whatever reason we were not successful in uploading it to our blog so today we are making a new attempt to post it. We have shown you pictures of the three different buildings but we wanted to show you how really close together they are. I took this video while standing in the parking lot of the Area building. The segment where we scan up the ancillary building (housing) shows apartment windows. Our apartment is directly above the entrance on the middle (second level) floor. The ground level is actually the zero floor. The second level is actually the third floor.
We went shopping Friday morning while the Area Presidency was at the Temple. Traffic gets very snarled in the afternoons so we avoid traveling as much as possible in the afternoons or early evenings. Because of the heavy traffic that travels into the center of Ghana you must turn right when you leave the complex and travel about 1 km to a round-about where you can go back the other way if you want to go North from the Temple complex. What would normally take 4 minutes can take 20-30 minutes to leave the temple complex, turn right, go through the round-about and get back to the Temple complex just to go North (2 km). We were running low on some food items so this was a good time to go. In the States it is very seldom to go for an item only to find the store is sold out. That is usually an item on sale or close-out. In Ghana that is a regular occurrence. The day after we got here we went shopping in order to get set up. One of the items we bought was Tuna packed in water. We were told if you like an item, buy as much as you can because it may be several months before you will see it again. It has now been over two months and we still have not seen it on the shelves. We have started to do some baking. This is not something we have had time for until recently. Friday we needed some brown sugar and when we got to the shelves where sugar is stocked we didn't see any brown sugar. So I asked a store attendant. She said "it's finished." That means they were sold out. Oatmeal cookies will have to wait. Who knows when we will get any brown sugar.
Not much more we can report on this week. Stephaney has been busy gathering information for the Area History. The person who is responsible for Church History Church-wide was visiting this past week so Stephaney was trying to pull everything together so she can send it with him on a thumb drive.
Just when I didn't think you can 'show' us any more cool things...you come up with one! Great 'view' of things as they are in your world. Just know those of us back in 'this world' are thinking and praying for you!
ReplyDeleteI just read about how to 'make' brown sugar! Mix one cup white sugar with 2 tablespoons of molasses..assuming you have molasses... :) Keep up the great work!
